Energy efficient homes are a practical solution for minimizing the cost of energy and developing a healthier atmosphere at home or office. Moreover, unnecessary consumption of energy is reduced and by laying some energy efficient strategies or products, new and existing homes can be made more effective. Energy Star, an environmental protection agency is contributing to lay energy efficient programs and practices to safeguard the environment and also to cut down on energy bills of consumers. The results have been amazing and this energy management strategy is being applied to business and residential premises where energy star ratings help the consumers to analyze the building efficiency.
The standard of energy performance rating for building and products:
To be eligible for the energy star rating, the buildings are required to meet certain standards. The standards are building location, operating features and the data of energy. This system of rating will compare the buildings with other buildings that are built on Energy Star, insulation, energy efficient homes criteria. The space of the building should be according to the type of building like, whether it is a hospital, house, municipal wastewater, etc. Then, what should be the measurement of building, number of rooms, types of rooms, etc. Then, the energy data should be analyzed accurately depending on the number of square feet installed in the property and the time when data is entered which should not cross 65 days.
According to the three factors, the rating will be given to the building. The higher the rating, the better is the model of efficiency. This helps to buy the building or construct an energy efficient home, which will help you cut down on bills plus also keep the environment green.
Those appliances which are old and not energy efficient harms the atmosphere and raise the energy bill which is paid by the consumer. Therefore, while selecting the products, choose products or appliances that show the label of energy star. For Air conditioners, the seasonal energy efficiency rating must be 12 or more and the same way, one must look for the energy star ratings on refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, etc. Thus you determine the correct product for the home.
Installing R factor insulation in your home:
For Energy Star , insulation , energy efficient homes and reduction in energy bills, one must calculate the insulation with R factor. The insulation acts like a safety blanket and protects the house. Measurement of R value determines type, thickness and the density of the material. If the R value is high, the product is more energy efficient. Recommended R value to determine efficiency is R 12. The R value is used to measure the thermal resistance and you can use products with maximum thermal resistance. Some of them are rigid foam, loose-fill, foam-in-place, rolls and batts. Also seal the air leaks before installing the insulation.
If you are trying to install it by yourself, then you must check the fire codes and evaluate different types of insulation materials. Insulation will improve the comfort level and help you save a lot of money as well. So, implement energy efficient strategies and enjoy a healthy life as well as a healthy environment.
